CAFETERIA MANAGER
SCHOOL PERSONNEL

1. CREDENTIALS: High School Diploma or GED. College credits may be preferred but not required.
2. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: The person in this position must be neat in appearance, clean in work habits and follow all safety rules; has the ability to plan, organize, train, motivate and supervise; be confidential; work cooperatively with school staff; be courteous; have a positive attitude toward work; and demonstrate a happy, helpful attitude toward students. Satisfactory experience in food and nutrition, math and record keeping may be preferred. Acceptance report of health examination required prior to starting to work.
3. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The person in this position must be able to see, hear, talk, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and carry objects of up to thirty (30) pounds, reach, push, pull, stoop, kneel and climb. This person must maintain the intellectual, sensory and motor functions necessary for effectively managing the cafeteria as well as providing for the safety of emplyees, students and patrons. This person must be able to tolerate smells, chemicals and extreme temperatures commonly associated with cooking, cleaning and schools in general.
4. PRIMARY DUTIES: The person in this position is responsible for managing the policies and general business operations of the school cafeteria. The Cafeteria Manager works with the School Principal and the Director of School Food Service and Transportation in developing a food service program at the school on a sound nutritional, educational and financial basis that meets the local, state and federal guidelines.
5. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Maintain adequate and accurate records and controls to include: financial, personnel, inventories, operational reports and records, and the purchasing of food, supplies, and equipment for the cafeteria.
- Supervise food preparation, service, storage and follow-up operations within the kitchen.
- Instruct and train staff on the job.
- Purchase food wisely and upon delivery checks against the purchase order and invoice for accurate amounts.
- Outline specific duties and work schedule for all cafeteria assistants.
- Participate in and promote in service training and conferences and continuing educational programs for self and other personnel.
- Assist the director of personnel in the employment of the cafeteria staff.
- Cooperate with health officials in supporting public health laws, sanitation and safety.
- Develop a climate in the cafeteria that encourages participation in the lunch program.
- Exercise discretion and use good independent judgment.
In addition to essential job functions listed above, perform other duties as assigned.
6. STAFF RELATIONSHIP:
Reports directly to the Supervisor of School Nutrition.
7. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten (10) months, Salary and benefits set annually. Exempt.
